What R.I. Gen. Laws §34-18-19 requires
- Return deadline: 20 days
- Deposit cap: 1 month's rent — Separate furniture deposit up to 1 month allowed when furnishings' replacement value is $5,000+
- 20 days runs from the latest of termination, delivery of possession, or receipt of the tenant's forwarding address
- Itemized written notice of deductions required
- Noncompliance: 2x the amount wrongfully withheld plus attorneys' fees
