What N.Y. Gen. Oblig. Law §7-108 requires
- Return deadline: 14 days
- Deposit cap: 1 month's rent
- Itemized statement required within the 14 days or the landlord forfeits any right to retain the deposit
- Tenant must be offered a pre-move-out inspection with a chance to cure
- Willful violation: up to 2x the deposit; interest-bearing account required for buildings of 6+ units
