What Mich. Comp. Laws §§554.602–554.613 requires
- Return deadline: 30 days
- Deposit cap: 1.5 months' rent
- Itemized damage list plus a check for the difference must be mailed within 30 days; notice must include the statutory 7-day response demand
- Landlord must sue within 45 days of move-out to keep amounts the tenant disputes
- Noncompliance: liable for 2x the amount wrongfully withheld; tenant must give forwarding address within 4 days of moving
