What Kan. Stat. §§58-2548, 58-2550 requires
- Return deadline: 14–30 days
- 14 days — After landlord determines non-rent deductions
- 30 days — Absolute maximum after tenancy ends and possession is delivered
- Deposit cap: 1 month's rent — 1.5 months if furnished; additional half month allowed for pets
- Itemized written notice of deductions required
- Wrongful withholding: liable for 1.5x the amount due
