What Kan. Stat. §§58-2548, 58-2550 requires

  • Return deadline: 14–30 days
    • 14 days After landlord determines non-rent deductions
    • 30 days Absolute maximum after tenancy ends and possession is delivered
  • Deposit cap: 1 month's rent — 1.5 months if furnished; additional half month allowed for pets
  • Itemized written notice of deductions required
  • Wrongful withholding: liable for 1.5x the amount due
